Some stories come full circle in ways only God could write.
This summer, we are proud and excited to announce that our oldest son, Garrett Spangler, has stepped into a leadership role as Head of Legacy of Hope Coffee.
For many of you, Garrett may be a new face. For our family, his story is deeply woven into the very beginnings of Legacy of Hope.
Years ago, after a large sibling set we had been fostering left our care, our family found ourselves grieving and searching for what God might have next. We knew our hearts still longed to care for vulnerable children, but we weren’t sure what that would look like.
It was Garrett who encouraged us not to stop looking for opportunities to serve.
Because of that encouragement, our family took a trip to Honduras to work with orphaned and vulnerable children. What we thought would be a short-term opportunity became something much bigger. God used that trip to change the direction of our lives and ultimately led to the founding of Legacy of Hope.
Today, nearly two decades later, Garrett is helping write the next chapter of that story.
At 25 years old, Garrett brings valuable experience from the food service industry, where he worked in order fulfillment and distribution. In his new role, he will help oversee operations, fulfillment, inventory management, and growth strategies designed to build a sustainable, mission-driven coffee business that supports the work of Legacy of Hope.
If you’ve met Garrett, you’ve probably noticed one of his greatest gifts: he has a way of making people feel important. Whether he’s helping a customer, encouraging a friend, or serving behind the scenes, he genuinely cares about people and creates space for them to feel seen and valued.
When asked what excites him most about this new opportunity, Garrett shared: “What’s exciting is the opportunity to expand the reach of our coffee to more people both locally and nationally. I want more people to drink their coffee knowing they have both great quality and a good cause that they support.”
For Garrett, coffee has never been just about coffee.
Reflecting on his experiences in Honduras, he shared: ”I want people to feel the same purpose and connection I felt when serving in Honduras.”
That heart perfectly reflects the vision behind Legacy of Hope Coffee. Every bag purchased helps support the mission of serving vulnerable children and families while creating a sustainable source of funding for the work God has called us to do. The long-term goal is to build a recognizable, mission-driven brand that creates lasting impact both locally and internationally.
There is something especially meaningful about watching the son who encouraged us to keep saying “yes” to vulnerable children now help lead a business that supports that very mission.
